Raisin River Canoe Race 2023 a success

The annual ‘Raisin River Canoe Race’ was held this Saturday, April 15th. In its 50th. Year, This year’s race broke a participation record of around 300 canoe enthusiasts from Eastern Ontario.

The weather was clear skies and warm temperatures which made all the routes along the river a party atmosphere. There were hundreds of well wishers on the embankments, on bridges, starting and finish lines. The real excitement was at the Martin’s town dam / bridge, where the rapids made it a challenge Many canoeists decided to Portage their canoe’s by land to bypass the rapids. There were some canoes that did not make the fast moving water, and many canoeists were dumped in the moving water. Fortunately, there were no injuries. 

A great time was had by all, the crowds watching, the canoeist, the volunteers. Notable Thanks are the support of various fire departments, The Ontario Provincial Police and all the sponsors. Communications between the race organizers, Fire Departments and Ontario Provincial Police was handled by the Seaway Valley Amateur Radio Club.
