CORNWALL – Carpentry, hairstyling, welding, and journalism are just a few of the skilled trades and technology events that students will compete in during the Eastern Ontario Secondary School Skills Competition at St. Lawrence College’s Cornwall campus on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

 More than 275 secondary school students from 26 schools in the Upper Canada District School Board and the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario will showcase their skills and creativity applied in experiential education at the secondary level.

The focus of the competition is to provide a public forum that highlights the skills and knowledge students have gained in their particular field of interest. The annual competition is an excellent opportunity for students to demonstrate their talent and creativity putting all of their skills to the test against peers and the current industry standards. Students are given specific tasks to perform, or scenarios to complete, within a predetermined time frame that will be judged by industry specialists.

Competition winners will have the opportunity to advance to the qualifying competition held at St. Lawrence College’s Kingston campus on April 16 as well as the provincial competition in Kitchener-Waterloo in May.
