Dear Editor,

I just wanted to take a moment to thank Mr. Ford for allowing alcohol to be sold in corner stores. It’s been such a huge help for my family. Before this change, when my husband ran out of beer or wine, he’d have to wait until he could drive to the LCBO to get more. Those short moments when he couldn’t just hop in the car and restock were the only times the kids and I got a little break. Crazy, right?

But now, thanks to you, he can just walk down the street to the corner store and grab whatever he needs, anytime. No more waiting, just smooth, uninterrupted alcohol consumption 24/7, which means verbal abuse 24/7. The kids and I never get a moment’s peace anymore. It’s like the convenience of corner store alcohol has given him a whole new way to keep the tension and anger going, and taken away any chance of respite for us. So thanks.

I mean, sure, there are probably other people out there who think we really didn’t need this, and for more than one reason, this might make it easier for folks to overdo it, but hey, that’s not Mr. Ford’s problem, is it? He’s just looking out for us, making life a little simpler.

Well, life is not simpler for me, Mr. Ford. In fact, it got much more complicated.

So, thank you, Mr. Ford. I can’t wait to see what’s next. Maybe next you’ll put slot machines in the corner stores too, that way, my husband can lose money without even leaving the neighborhood. What do you say?
