Municipal Elections: Our Predictions

We’ve heard a lot about and from the various candidates. Now it’s time for speculations. Who do you think will win the mayoral race? Which veteran councilors will return? Who will be nixed? Here are our predictions. NOTE: These are not indicative of who we VOTED for. They are who we THINK will get in, looking at a variety of factors.

Mayors

It was an interesting race with front runners Glen Grant (incumbent) and Justin Towndale remaining pretty civil throughout. Very few “jabs” were taken, except for Mr. Grant stipulating that electing anybody else but him would be disruptive.

Jordan Poapst is definitely the wild card in this race. The man is quite well-spoken and although some of his ideas are pretty wild, others make sense. It will be interesting to see how his run impacts the youth turnout. Being an “influencer”, he might manage to get some of the people under 30 more aware and interested in their municipal government.

Though present at 2 debates, James Leroux seems to have been MIA otherwise. His campaign manager, Ms. Nicole Spahich, who ran in both 2014 and 2018, and finished with 238 votes in 2018, left more of an impression than Leroux is leaving now. I don’t anticipate Mr. Leroux will do that well. Maybe I’ll be surprised.

To us, the real race is between Grant and Towndale, and we believe Towndale with take the seat. Here are our predictions, based on a 12,000 voters turnout.

Councillors

With so many running, it’s a difficult task to try and take the pulse of the community. But nonetheless, here it is, who each of us think will get elected as city councillor. Some of us have selected David Murphy. Since Dave has unofficially pulled out of the race due to his health, those of us who had him as a winner selected 11 names instead of 10.
